The institution over which I preside, is interested in realising the potential of the cultural legacy of Aragonese Jewry and take it to the level it de-serves historically. With that goal in sight we want to create a network of Juderias (Medieval Jewish Quarters) offering itineraries that show the richness and variety of the culture by means of actions in the following fields: signalisation, recuperation and patrimonial restoration, publishing of guides, opening of centres of interpretation (Tarazona, Ejea and Biel), a great exhibition in the Sastago Palace about Jewish Aragon, database with the genealogic lines, etc. In sum, a reencounter with our roots and welcoming home all the Sephardic communities spread all over the world, who will always have in Aragon and in our hearts their home, the motherland of rights and coexistence.

Javier Lambán Montañés
President of Provincial Diputation of Zaragoza

This new initiative should be a message of hope, to achieve from Aragon the opening of our doors from the inside, for the “Tornator” (the return) of the descendants of the Jews who lived in our common land for them to discover and link with their roots, authentic and unknown. Without any doubt this undertaking represents the selfless work of many people who believe that the expulsion of the Jews of Sepharad, their home, was a terrible historical mistake. We hope that the ways of cultural tourism will help a re-encounter for a peaceful, fruitful future coexistence of these two peoples with the same roots : the Jews and the Aragonese.

Aragon keeps infinite secrets of its Jewish inheritance as treasures inside thousands of documents in its many archives and in the physical existence of its many Jewish Quarters, which shelter the geography in zigzag of the medieval streets, the architecture of its houses and the living testimony of synagogues and cemeteries. The scientific team guarantees a most rigurous endeavour, supported on the written and archeological sources, that is and will continue to be undertaken, in order to preserve the fidelity and the historical memory. In this land of the Three Religions of the Book, the traveller as well as the scholar will find a great effort to recover the Jewish imprint in its purest and genuine state, in a fascinating trip to the Middle Ages.
